The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP)

The LBRP can be used by all to banish spirits and protect the energy and sanctity of their environment. This is the purpose that most people use it for today. For those who are interested though, it has far greater significance and is well worth researching. Aleister Crowley once said of the LBRP, “…this ritual … is the Medicine of Metals and the Stone of the Wise.”

Here it is:

The Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram

  • Touching the forehead, say Ateh (Unto Thee).
  • Touching the breast, say Malkuth (The Kingdom).
  • Touching the right shoulder, say ve-Geburah (and the Power).
  • Touching the left shoulder, say ve-Gedulah (and the Glory).
  • Clasping the hands upon the breast, say le-Olahm, Amen (to the Ages, Amen).
  • Turning to the East, make a Pentagram (that of Earth) with the proper weapon. Say (i.e., vibrate) YHVH.
  • Turning to the South, the same, but say ADONAI.
  • Turning to the West, the same, but say EHEIEH.
  • Turning to the North, the same, but say AGLA.
  • Extending the arms in the form of a Cross, say:
  • Before me Raphael;
  • Behind me Gabriel;
  • On my right hand Michael;
  • On my left hand Uriel;
  • For about me flames the Pentagram,
  • And in the Column stands the six-rayed Star.
  • Repeat (1) to (5), the ‘Kabbalistic Cross’.

pentagrams - invoking and banishing pentagrams

The names of God used in the LBRP are pronounced “Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh”, “Ad-oh-ny”, “Ee-hay-yay” and “Ahg-lah”. AGLA is an abbreviation using the initial letters of the phrase “Atah Gibor le-Ohlahm Adonai”, and this can be said in the North in place of AGLA. It means, “Thou art mighty unto the ages Adonai.” These four names are called “tetragrammatic names” by Mathers, and share a four-fold structure in common. They represent the Unity of the name as a whole, symbolizing Spirit, expressing itself through its four components, representing the four aspects of manifestation. Their placement at the four quarters therefore recapitulates the underlying structural meaning of the ritual as a whole.

Eliphas Levi, wrote:
The Sign of the Cross adopted by Christians does not belong to them exclusively. This also is kabalistic and represents the oppositions and tetradic equilibrium of the elements. We see by the occult versicle of the Lord’s Prayer, which we have cited in our ‘Doctrine’, that it was originally made after two manners, or at least that it was characterized by two entirely different formulae, one reserved for priests and initiates, the other imparted to neophytes and the profane. For example, the initiate said raising his hand to his forehead, ‘For thine,’ then added ‘is,’ and continuing as he brought down his hand to his breast, ‘the kingdom,’ then to the left shoulder, ‘and the mercy’ — then clasping his hands, he added, ‘in the generating ages.’ Tibi sunt Malkuth et Geburah et Chesed per aeonas — a Sign of the Cross which is absolutely and magnificently kabalistic, which the profanations of Gnosticism have lost completely to the official and militant Church. This Sign, made after this manner, should precede and terminate the Conjuration of the Four [elements].

The invoking and banishing forms of this ritual are identical except for the Pentagrams. The invoking form uses the invoking Pentagrams of Earth. The banishing form uses the banishing Pentagrams of Earth.

White Light Healing

White Light Healing

White lighting is a very old method of cleansing and renewing energy. I most frequently perform this for my clients that are suffering from depression or anxiety, as it lifts the negativity from the person, leaving them feeling far better physically and emotionally. White lighting can be done anywhere, by anyone, and requires nothing but your mental focus. (I’m serious – you can do this at the bus stop , on the train, in the doctors waiting room …) White lighting can be applied helpfully to many situations – spaces that need clearing, objects that contain unwanted energy or spirits, for the cleansing of your tarot cards, wands, instruments, crystals and other magical objects.

One of the most powerful ways you can use white light, is to cleanse a person’s energy. It leaves them feeling clearer, noticeably less depressed and worried, and gives them a renewed sense of energy and vitality. Many of my clients have talked about feeling appreciably better for up to 2 weeks following a session, and I’ve found over time that I have been teaching them all to do this for themselves as it’s so beneficial. They report having great success with it, and it made me want to share it with you all.

So here goes:

Sit or lie down comfortably. Tell yourself, it’s okay to relax and  to let the worries of the day slip away from you. Breathe deeply and see your stress and worries floating away from you in clouds or bubbles … just watch them go…  blown away gently by the breeze, and feel happy that this difficult energy is leaving you.

Once you feel calm and your breathing is steady focus on seeing an image of yourself (or whatever item or person you are intending to cleanse). See your whole body – either standing up or sitting down, perhaps cross legged , or whichever way is easiest for you to visualise.

Look closely at yourself and see around you an ”aura” or a dome of energy – similar to the shape of a candle-flame or an egg. The energy has colours in it – pinks, blues, murky colours, green, perhaps silver, or red… or white. Focus on the energy and step closer to it. Look at the colours and appreciate them. Take notice of how the different energies in this aura make you feel.

When you’re ready, step back, and allow yourself to refocus on the whole image again. Seeing yourself with your aura, the dome of coloured energy, encircling you. The colours in the energy are all the emotions and feelings and thoughts and experiences you’ve had that have affected you and remained with you. You have not been able to release this energy and for that reason you keep on experiencing it and being impacted and effected by it. Some of this energy is very dark and negative and you would feel much better if it was released – so that is what we are going to do.

We are going to clean your aura, expelling the current energy trapped around you and we are going to continue until all that is left is clear, or white, positive energy. This will boost your energy levels and positivity immediately. When done properly, you feel incredibly wonderful ; your mood is greatly elevated and so is your sense of vitality.

Now that you’ve some familiarity with your aura as it is today, we are going to start working on it. Our tool is a beam of bright white light. See in your minds’ eye a very bright beam of light – like a torch or a candle or whatever is easiest for you to picture – but it must be a blue-white light no yellows at all in the beam.  Direct this beam towards your aura.

Notice how the light lifts and scrubs away the darkened patches of energy around you. Step back occasionally in your minds’ eye and see the progress you’ve made. You are using the light effectively and it is cleansing and refreshing and healing all that you direct it at.

Some of the darkest areas may need to be gone over several times before being fully cleared. If you get tired, you may take a moment or two out – but do not lose sight of the image of yourself.  You are going to proceed to cleanse the entire dome of energy around you. Scrubbing out all the difficulty and pain and hurt you’ve experienced.  As you progress notice that you feel lighter, less burdened, less troubled, less sad. Do not stop until the energy around you is a pure white.

This is actually an exhausting thing to do, particularly when cleansing someone for the first time, and also when you’re not experienced in it , but it does become easier with time and practice. At first, it will require you to have a lot of mental strength and determination, but the way you feel afterwards makes it worthwhile. The benefit of it is amazing; you will literally feel uplifted, revitalised  and have a sense of being ‘lighter’.

This is a practice that I would recommend doing at least once a week and at any time when you’re experiencing hardship, trauma or depression.

Cleanse your Home

Cleanse your Home

There are times when you walk into your home and you instantly feel like you are not alone or that the space is not ‘neutral’ or ‘clear’. You feel like there is energy or a presence in the house and you can’t escape that feeling…

Whether the energy is negative or positive; if it is disturbing you, you will want to ‘cleanse’ your environment and shift it on. There are a number of ways to do this that are relatively simple and effective, however some very strong or stubborn energies may require a combination of processes.

Negative energy tends to hang around in corners, and more shadowy places at home – wardrobes, cupboards, darker rooms… You can feel the presence there, though you may be unsure of what exactly it is. You may find yourself constantly looking over your shoulder feeling as if you are being watched, goose bumps, sudden chills and coughing, you may also notice electrical items playing up (TV’s, children’s’ toys, computers, printers randomly going on and off and so forth) are all little signals that something is ‘there’. Disturbed sleep, anxious feelings and restlessness are also indicators. You might have also noticed that arguments and tension seem most prevalent in one particular area of your home…

sage, cleansing, smudging, protection
Simply dry and bundle your own sage, or purchase from your greengrocer or esoteric shop.

If this rings true for you, there are things you can do to cleanse the space that is affected. One of these is ‘smudging’ with sage. Sage smells fresh and clean and it helps to remove negativity that has become trapped in the home – including energies that you wish to move on. You can use a bunch of dried sage, or you can buy a ‘sage wand’ online or at some esoteric shops…You need a heat proof bowl to put the sage in, after you have lit it – a ceramic or Pyrex bowl is fine… just be careful not to burn your hands if the bowl gets hot. Light the sage leaves at their tips and when they start burning blow them out quickly or use a piece of thick paper or cardboard to do it – so it doesn’t flame up. Then put the sage in the bowl and it will continue to smoke.

Keep the windows and doors closed to your house. Get a fan or a small piece of cardboard and start in one corner of your room, and gently waft the smoke up to the ceiling. Do this in each corner of your room. When you are done with the fourth corner, move to the centre of the room, raise the bowl chest high and waft smoke up toward the centre of the room.

You are now done. When you leave the room, shut the door. Leave everything closed up for an hour after doing this. You might also want to let pure white light into the house to further cleanse it, by lighting white candles.
